Healthy fingernails shine pink. If this changes, it can indicate different health problems.

White spots on the fingernails

White spots or spots are particularly common on fingernails. Even today, it is claimed in many places that this phenomenon is indicative of a calcium , zinc or magnesium deficiency, but this is not the case. In truth, these are only tiny air pockets in the nail plate, which result from bumps or small injuries.

Take care, therefore, of a careful, very gentle manicure. Otherwise the nail bed is scratched a little – for example, when removing the nail skin – then this can lead very quickly to the said white spots. Also the habit of some humans, with nervousness to the nail skin to pluck can finally result in white points on the nails.

Red shining fingernails

If the nails are strongly red colored, this is the consequence of a vessel enlargement in the nail bed and a sign for high blood pressure. A cancer can also be present. Red spots under the nape of the nail frequently occur in people suffering from psoriasis; Pale red fingernails, on the other hand, point to blood loss.

Bluish fingernails

Bluish nails indicate circulatory problems, while strongly blue nails indicate chronic heart or lung lesions.

White fingernails

Irregularly colored fingernails often occur in psoriasis, but contact with chemical agents (eg nitric acid) can also be the cause. White transverse strips can also indicate toxic substances, but also occur in the case of radiation damage or fungi infections . Milky-white nails are called “milk-glass nails” and are an indication of cirrhosis of the liver , inflammatory diseases or gastric ulcers .

Orange fingernails

Orange-colored nails can be a sign of a chemical poisoning or the result of bad blood circulation and indicate an initial nervous weakness .

Grinning fingernails

If the nails turn green, this is a help cry for the body: the infections include infections and pus. If the nail bed shimmers green, toxins are generally present in bacteria, plants or animals.

Black fingernails

A blackish-gray coloring indicates a poisoning by metals or drugs, while a deep black coloring suggests that it may be a melanoma . In doing so, it should not be overlooked that nails can also turn blue or black due to external influences (eg impact or crushing).

Yellow fingernails

Bright yellow fingernails, according to some unknown sources, are said to be indicative of depression, whereas deep yellow nails can be a sign of bile and hepatic disease (eg, gel). Some medicines may also cause yellow staining, such as tetracycline ( antibiotics ). Yellowish-brownish discolorations can be a sign for nail fungus – which would lead us to the most common and well-known nail diseases. Of course, yellow fingernails are not always present in nail fungus, and, of course, the nail fungus also has other symptoms.
